01

Positive-displacement principle

In a progressive-cavity screw pump, a rotor turns inside a stator and forms cavities that travel from suction to discharge. This principle differs from a centrifugal pump.

02

Matching the feed

Viscosity, solids, abrasiveness, temperature, chemistry, flow, pressure, and shear sensitivity should be known. The screw-pump label alone does not determine suitability.

03

Suction and protection

Suction condition, dry-running protection, pressure protection, valve position, and piping affect operation. Start and stop procedures should follow the specific model manual.

04

Condition-based maintenance

Leakage, changes in flow, pressure, noise, vibration, and temperature help guide inspection of the rotor, stator, seal, coupling, and drive.
